ok my apologies for the mad longness of this chapter. ummmm, as usual there are some "bad" words in there and a smidge of nudity. lol. nothing graphic just...yeah. you'll see. lol

Chapter Four
“Arg!” Liz yelled before resting her forehead on the steering wheel of her car. All she wanted to do was get home. After three months, the L.A. traffic was getting less and less tolerable. Every day, bumper to bumper of the freeway was enough to drive the calmest person insane. She looked at her clock. Five-thirty. That would make it eight-thirty in New York. She dug around in her purse for her phone and dialed the number to her old apartment. As it rang, Liz looked out her window and noticed that the woman in the car next to hers was glaring at her and shaking her head.
“Hello?” Amy asked when she answered the phone.
The woman in the car-next-door scowled and made a “hang up the phone” hand motion. “Hey, it’s me. Hang on a sec.” Liz rolled down her window. “It’s not like I’m actually driving anywhere, lady!” She laughed when her neighbor’s response was to flip her off. “Sorry ‘bout that.”
“Do I even wanna know?”
“Nosey wh.ore next to me doesn’t approve of me being on the phone while I’m behind the wheel or something. Ugh. Sorry. Stuck in traffic. How was your day?”
“Same sh.it, different day. Just got in from my late class,” Amy said in a tired tone.
“Aw, you’re almost done! Only a few more months and then you’ll be out here with us.”
“I’m jealous of your us-ness.”
“No you’re not.”
“Ok, not really. Just a little bit. So guess who I saw at the deli this morning.”
“That old man with the one really long hair growing out of the bridge of his nose?”
“Duh, he only works there every Thursday. Dude totally sliced my bagel. But seriously, I’m standing in line, waiting for my coffee and in walks fu.cking Seth Harper.”
“Oh?” Liz pretended to be completely uninterested even though she had countless questions to ask about her ex-boyfriend. They had dated all throughout college, right up until the start of her final semester. It had been an easy break up. She had been the one to end it, claiming that they were growing apart and that after graduation she wanted to be free to focus on her career. But she’d expected him to fight for her, to protest, promise that they’d work through any problems post-college life would throw at them. Instead, he simply agreed. As the one that did the breaking up, Liz felt like she shouldn’t still be upset about how accepting he was of the situation but she couldn’t help it.
“He, uh, says hello.”
“How’d he look?”
“Good. His hair’s a little bit longer and he’s rocking the stubble again.”
“D.amnit,” Liz said under her breath. She’d always loved it when he went a day or two without shaving. “Did he ask about me?”
“Of course. I told him that you were living in Cali and working for the paper. And, oh my God, you should’ve seen his face when I told him you were living with the guys. He almost choked on his tongue.”
Liz smiled and suddenly traffic started to move very slowly. “So what’s he up to?”
“Oh, nothing,” Amy snapped.
“Ames…”
“It’s not important.”
“Just tell me.”
Amy sighed and Liz knew her well enough to know that she was twisting a strand of her dirty blonde hair around her finger nervously. “He got married over the summer.”
“Good for him.”
“To Shelby Green.”
“What!? Shelby Green? My Shelby Green?” Shelby had been Liz’s roommate for her first semester. She was notorious for bringing boys back to the room in the middle of the night to have sex with while Liz tried to sleep. She used to tell Seth about what a skank Shelby was. Now that skank was his wife.
“I knew I shouldn’t have told you…”
“No, no, it’s fine. I’m just…shocked, that’s all.” And she was. The reason she’d been attracted to Seth in the first place was the fact that he was just as laid back and unimpressed by people like Shelby Green as she was. Clearly, she was a bad judge of character.
“Honestly, I feel like maybe he’s a little shocked, too. He seemed a little bit too enthusiastic or something.”
Liz laughed and finally was able to get her car up to seventy-five. “Yay! I’m driving!”
“You’re cute!”
“I try.”
“So did I totally ruin your day?”
“You couldn’t ruin my day if you tried.”
“So what’ve you been up to?”
“Not much. I get to go to the UCLA/UNC game on Saturday.”
“Is that something I should be excited about? Or know what that means?”
“It’s a big football game. It’s my first really big story.”
“Aww, Lizzy! That’s amazing! I’m so excited for you!”
“I’m freaking out a little bit, honestly. It’s a huge deal around here.”
“You’ll be fine. Are the guys going with you?”
“Well, I could only get one extra ticket so…”
“Alex is going with you.”
“Yeah.”
“When should I expect my invitation to the wedding?”
“Amy, I’ve told you we are just friends,” Liz answered as she pulled off her exit.
“You’re not attracted to him at all?”
Liz sighed. This was getting to be a regular conversation. “Look, he’s not unattractive. He’s just not my type.”
“Oh whatever. You don’t even have a type.”
Liz pulled down the street and was pleasantly surprised to see that the black Jeep wasn’t in the driveway. “Oh my God!”
“What? Are you ok?”
“Oh, I’m better than ok. I think I’ve got the house to myself for the first time in, like, a month.”
“Oh my God. What’re you gonna do?”
Liz got out of her car and leaned against the closed driver’s side door. “I’m thinking grilled cheese sandwich and then a really, really long shower.”
“Sounds magical.”
“Oh, it will be.”
“And speaking of magical, guess who just bought her ticket for a flight from JFK to LAX!”
“Ahh! Two more weeks!” She walked up to the front door and unlocked it. “So what time are you getting in?” Liz dropped her purse on the couch and headed back to the kitchen.
“Um, it says seven so-”
“Oh my God!” Liz froze, mouth open in shock as she took in the sight in front of her. There, in the kitchen, stood Alex Noyes, completely naked, except for a tiny pink zebra-print bathrobe that only came down to his hips. He was in the middle of eating a sandwich but froze like a deer in the headlights when he saw her standing there. No matter how hard she tried not to, Liz had to allow her eyes a moment to scan his body, lingering exactly where they shouldn’t for far too long.
“Hello? Liz? Are you alright?” Amy asked through Liz’s cell phone.
The voice snapped Liz back into reality. She covered her eyes with her hand and spun around as her face turned completely red. She took a deep breath to steady herself. “Amy, I’m fine. I’ll call you back later.” She hung up and tried to think of something to say.
“What’re you doing home?” Alex asked, his voice a good octave higher from the shock of his current situation.
“What am I doing home? What the f.uck are you doing naked in our kitchen!?”
“…eating a sandwich…”
“Well thank you captain obvious! I’m really more curious about the naked part.”
“I thought I had the house to myself.”
“So you’re naked?”
“Yeah.”
“And it’s because you’re home alone?”
“Right.”
“And the bathrobe?”
“To hold my phone and iPod.”
Liz would’ve laughed if she wasn’t so flustered by the fact that she’d just seen one of her best friends completely naked. “But that’s my robe…”
“It was hangin in the laundry room and I was throwing a load into the drying and…look it seemed like a good idea at the time and, like I said, I wasn’t planning on anyone seeing me like this.” He hesitated before asking, “Do you want it back now?”
“Uh, you can keep it.”
“Are you ok? You seem a little tense?”
“It’s been a weird day. I get stuck in hel.lish traffic, find out that my ex-boyfriend is now married to a skanky whore, and then come home to all this,” she said, gesturing at him over her shoulder.
“Aw, I’m sorry. Do you want a hug?”
“Um, I would normally say yes but seeing as how you’re currently without pants…”
“Oh, right.”
“Where’re Mike, Jay, and Andy?”
“Went out to dinner. Didn’t you get Andy’s text?”
“No…”
“Well, I figured you’d be with them so…”
“You decided to embrace the natural look. I got it. What time did they leave?”
“Like twenty minutes ago. You could totally call ‘em up and ask them to wait for you.”
“After today I don’t think my heart can take any more human interaction.” She sighed and shrugged. “You wanna order some Chinese or something?”
“Sounds good.”
“Great. Um, could you do me a favor though?”
“Sure. What’s up?”
“Can you please put some clothes on?”
She heard Alex laugh behind her. “No prob. I just…”
“What?”
“Well, don’t judge me based on this. ‘Cause just before you walked in I had the fridge open and it was mad cold so…”
“Uh, sure!” she answered, even though she had been thinking the exact opposite of what he was implying. “I’m gonna go in my room now and then you can have a clear path up the stairs to pantsland.” She carefully sidestepped into her bedroom and shut the door behind her. She collapsed on the futon and listened to the sounds of Alex bounding up the stairs. She wondered if she would ever be able to look at him without her mind drifting to very non-“friends only” places. Thankfully her phone rang before she could form the entire mental image. “Hey. Sorry about that.”
“Are you alright? Was there a burglar in your house? Have you been abducted?”
“I’m fine, Ames. I was just a little bit startled.”
“By?”
“Just the giant naked man in my kitchen.”
“Umm, what?”
“Apparently being home alone is the only reason Alex need to be naked. Oh wait, he wasn’t completely naked. My mistake.”
Amy gasped. “Was he naked with shoes?”
“No, worse.”
“Oh, Lizzy, there is nothing worse than a naked man with his shoes on. It’s the epitome of awkward.”
“He was wearing my bathrobe.”
“Not the pink zebra one!”
“Yup.”
“But that thing barely covers you.”
“Well on him it’s purely decorative. But apparently it makes a nifty technology caddy.”
“Your poor robe. May it rest in peace.”
“Amen.”
“So…what’s it like?”
“Oh no. So not going there.”
“It’s really small, isn’t it? I’ve heard of that, tall guys with tiny di.cks. It’s some kind of weird physical anomaly, the whole mismatched stature and pe.nis thing. I mean, look at Mike…”
“When did you ever see Mike naked?”
“Sweetie, you don’t need to see him naked to know the man’s packing. And you wouldn’t see that coming since he’s so short, ya know? It’s those damn pants. They really don’t leave much to the imagination.”
“I’ve never really noticed.”
“Liar! And way to change the subject. I’m guessing that means that I’m right.”
“Not necessarily…”
“Oh my God! Just how big is it?”
“Lizzy, what d’you ant from the Chinese place?” Alex called through the door.
“Gimme one second,” she answered. “Ames, I gotta go.”
“Right, saved by the bell or whatever. Tell ‘the pistol’ I say hi. Oh and Alex, too.”
Liz laughed. “Oh, I love and hate you right now.”
“But you love me more.”
“Always true. Bye.” Liz got up and opened her door. Alex was spread out on the couch on his back reading the Chinese menu, holding it up over his face. “Feet.” Alex grinned and lifted up his legs. Liz sat down and he lowered them back onto her lap. “Thanks.”
Alex lowered the menu onto his chest. “So we’re cool, right?”
“Yeah, I think so. Can I just ask that you not be naked in the kitchen? I mean, you can go in and get a snack but maybe, like, limit the lingering. ‘Cause we eat in there and all…”
“You got it. But you’ll have to break it to the rest of the guys.”
“You’re all naked?”
“Not together. That’d be disgusting and creepy.”
“So at any moment there could be a naked man just hanging out around here.” Alex started cracking up. “Ugh, I didn’t mean it like that.”
“Suuure you didn’t.”
“It’s just weird to me. I mean, how would you guys feel if I was just randomly naked?”
“I really don’t think any of us would have a problem with that.”
Liz blushed and grabbed the menu off of his chest. “Did you decide what you want?”
“You’re blushing!”
“No, I’m not. Hmm, beef lo mien sounds good.”
“I made you blush! That’s totally a first. I need a picture of this. It needs to be documented.” He reached into his pocket for his phone.
“Don’t you dare!” She laughed and put her hands up to block the camera lens.
“Hold still, da.mnit!” Liz laughed and reached for the phone but Alex used his legs to hold her in place like a seat belt. “This could be already over if you’d quit resisting.”
The flash went off and Liz used every ounce of strength she had to squeeze out from under Alex’s legs. “Give me the phone.”
“No way. I’m tweeting this s.hit.”
“Alexander-” She pounced on top of him but with a quick roll he managed to flip himself over. Liz reached underneath him, trying to pull the BlackBerry out of his hands.
“Jeez, Lizzy. I didn’t know the the sight of my naked bod would drive you into such a frenzy.”
“You’re a dic.k,” she laughed. She was lying on his back and could feel movement beneath them. “Are you tweeting?”
“…no…”
“Son of a-” She stuck her hand between his chest and the couch cushion. Luckily, she had picked the perfect moment and location because she pulled her hand out it had Alex’s phone. “Yes! I win!” She jumped up and held the phone over her head triumphantly.
“Oh, you are so-”
Liz quickly turned around and sat down on the middle of his back. “I’m so what? Amazingly skilled? Super quick?” she asked as she deleted the picture and smiled to herself.
“I was gonna say dead but now I’m thinking unforeseeably heavy.”
Liz ruffled his hair. “That’s what you get for taking a girl’s picture without her permission.”
“You’re just lucky my hands are stuck underneath me right now,” he said with a laugh.
The door opened and in walked the rest of the band. “Hey!” Jay said as he walked through the front door. He smiled when he saw Liz sitting on the couch then realized that she was actually sitting on Alex. “Do I even want to know?”
“No, probably not,” Liz answered. “You guys are home early.”
“We decided to just bring home some Mexican instead,” Mike said as he headed into the kitchen with two bags.
“Did you get me a quesadilla?” Alex asked, suddenly able to get himself up from the couch.
“You big faker!” Liz said as she slid off of his back and onto the couch.
“Oh, I had to let you win,” Alex said as he got off the couch. “Phone please?” Liz begrudgingly handed it over and shuffled into the kitchen, mumbling under her breath. “I’m sorry, you’re gonna have to speak up.”
“I said I should’ve let Amy believe what she wanted to believe,” she told him with a wink before joining the guys in the kitchen.

LOL oh wow I never laughed so much reading a fanfiction in my life. Alex Noyes is a trip I could totally picture him in a shorty zebra robe with the excuse that he needed it to carry his phone and ipod haha. What a site to come home to.

Can't wait for the next chapter :)

Chapter Five
“Are you sure you don’t mind?” Andy asked Liz as he looked in the mirror in his bedroom.
Liz rolled her eyes and looked up from the magazine she was flipping through on his bed. “Andrew, you and Amy haven’t seen each other since the summer. You deserve to be able to go to the airport and pick up your girlfriend without me third-wheeling.”
“But she’s your best friend and I know you miss her, too.”
“And I can wait another hour or so to see her. Seriously, go to the airport, do the whole romantic thing with the flowers and the kiss-and-spin maneuver.”
“The what?”
“You know, when a guy kisses a girl and he, like, kisses her and picks her up and spins her around.”
“That’s a good one, huh?”
“Oh, we love it.”
Andy turned to face her. “How do I look? Is this shirt ok?”
“The shirt is great. You look very handsome. And even if you didn’t, it’s not like she’d suddenly decide that she doesn’t love you and turn around and go back to New York.”
“I know. I just…I feel like such an idiot. This whole long distance thing kills me and I get over excited when I actually get to see her.”
“You’re not an idiot. You’re just in love. And it’s kinda cute, actually.”
“You’re not gonna tell her what a spazz I was just now, are you?”
Liz laughed and got up off the bed. “Trust me, she knows abbot your spazzy moments. She thinks they’re cute.” She walked over to him and plucked a stray hair from his collar. “You should go. Don’t want her to land without the welcoming party waiting, right?”
“Right. Thanks, Liz.” He pulled her into a tight hug.
“Don’t mention it.” She pulled back and smiled up at him. “Now go get our girl.”
Andy laughed. “We’ll call you when we’re on our way home.”
“Sounds like a plan.” She watched him leave the room and crossed her arms over her chest. It was amazing to her how excited Andy was about getting to be with Amy again but there was a very small part of her that was just a little bit jealous. She was confident that none of her ex-boyfriends would have acted that way about her. And even if she wouldn’t admit it to anyone, especially herself, that was all she really wanted; someone to love her to the point of excitement at the thought of just seeing her. But it clearly wasn’t in the cards for her, at least not currently. The only guys she’d spent time with since moving to L.A. were either only interested in her as a friend. Not that there was anything wrong with that. It would just be nice to see someone’s eyes sparkle for her the way Andy’s did when he talked about Amy.
“Hey, you alright?” Jason asked when he saw Liz walking down the stairs. She didn’t have the normal bounce in her stride that he’d gotten used to.
“Yeah, I’m fine. Why?”
“You just seem, I dunno, a little schlumpy or something.”
Liz smiled for him. “No, I’m fine. Maybe just tired or something.”
“Well you might wanna grab some coffee ‘cause we are gonna be out late tonight,” Mike said from where he was laying on the couch.
“Oh, guys, that’s probably not a great idea. Amy’s gonna be exhausted.”
“Yeah, that’s why she won’t be coming with us.” Mike snorted; acting like Liz was talking like a crazy person.
“We always go out the first night Amy’s here,” Jason explained. “I mean, they don’t want us here and we don’t really want to be here, either.”
“What d’you…ohhhh!” Liz said, finally understanding. “Yeah, let’s go out, preferably somewhere that mental image can’t find me.”
“Where’re we going?” Alex asked, walking into the house in sweaty gym clothes, a duffel bag over his shoulder.
“Somewhere Liz can consume large quantities of alcohol,” Mike replied.
“Lizzy gettin’ a little wild, huh? Alright, I’m in,” he joked, nudging her with his elbow.
“You make it sound like I’m gonna be dancing on the bar,” she laughed, nudging him back. “But I am definitely not the DD for this adventure.”
“Oh, me neither!” Alex said quickly.
Jason and Mike glared at each other. “Well, Mr. Bruno, it looks like it’s just you and me,” Jason said with a playful smirk.
“Looks like we’ll have to settle this the old fashioned way,” Mike laughed.
“You mean-?”
“Oh yeah. Rock, paper, scissors.”
“Is this what people mean when they say that it’s on?” Liz whispered to Alex.
“This is way beyond that. This like fuc.king Thunder Dome. Two men enter, one man leaves completely wasted.”
Liz watched as Mike and Jason both threw “rock.” On the second round, Mike threw “rock” again, defeating Jay’s “scissors.” Jason grimaced, trying to plan his next move. Mike played “rock” or a third time, breaking Jason’s “scissors” again. “Son of a bit.ch!” Jason yelled.
“You just got crushed by the avalanche!” Mike laughed.
“The avalanche?” Liz asked through her laughter.
“If you play rock all three rounds that’s an avalanche,” Alex explained as he gave Mike a high-five.
“So looks like Jay’s driving our drunk as.ses home tonight,” Mike gloated, a huge grin on his face.
“Yeah, yeah,” Jason said, brushing his hair back from his face. “You share a wall with Andy so it’s probably better that you be a little wasted anyway.”
“Fu.ck! I forgot about that!”
“Well hopefully they’ll be asleep by the time we get home, anyway,” said Alex.
“I’m so glad I live down here,” Liz laughed. “I share walls with no one.”
“Yeah, except your ceiling is Noyes’s floor,” Jay reminded her.
“So if he ever gets laid you’re gonna hear the whooooole thing,” Mike teased.
“Well I guess it’s a good thing that never happens,” she cracked, much to the delight of Mike and Jason.
“Look, just because, unlike these two idiots, I chose quality over quantity doesn’t mean I never get any,” Alex defended.
“Oh, sweetie, yes it does,” Liz said.
“Maybe I’ll pick someone up tonight.”
“You’re just not the type, Alex. It’s nothing to be ashamed of.” Liz rubbed his arm.
“Yeah, whatevs. We’ll see.” A smile slowly spread across his face. “Oh shit, I almost forgot what time it is.”
“No. Alex, no.” Every time he worked out Alex liked to torture her by giving her a huge hug before getting a shower. Liz started to back away from him but he just took a few steps closer to her. She laughed and turned to run but it was too late. Alex’s arms were already wrapped around her waist and he lifted her a few inches off the ground. “Eww!” she squealed when he rubbed his sweaty hair and face on the side and back of her neck. He laughed, his breath tickling the skin right behind her ear. She closed her eyes for a second, surprised by how much she enjoyed the sensation of having Alex’s arms around her and feeling his warm breath on her skin, regardless of the fact that he was currently a sweaty mess. Then she remembered that she was supposed to be struggling to get away from him. “Alright, put me down you big idiot!” She pushed away with one hard shove but almost fell on her face from the momentum.
“Whoa, you alright?” Jay quickly grabbed her shoulders to steady her.
“You mean besides the fact that I now fell and probably smell like the bottom of a foot? Yeah, I’m fine. Thanks for the save.”
“Any time.”
“So I’m gonna go grab a shower before Andy and Amy get back.” She went into her bedroom and grabbed her shower caddy and bathrobe.
“You’re still using the robe?” Mike asked when he caught sight of the pink and black striped fabric as Liz carried it up the stairs.
“Well, he did have it dry cleaned for me,” she said with a shrug before going to take a shower.
* * * * *
“We’re home!” Andy called out as he walked into the house hand-in-hand with Amy.
“Ames!” Liz yelled as she came flying out of her room in her bathrobe. She was in the middle of doing her hair and make-up to go out but she forgot all about that when she’d heard that her best friend had arrived. She wrapped her arms around her in an enthusiastic hug, making her robe ride up in the back.
“Liz!” Amy hugged her back then noticed the three sets of eyes fixed on her best friend’s ass. “Sweetie, are you wearing underwear?” she whispered into Liz’s ear.
“Yeah…why?”
“You might wanna watch the shortie robe.”
Liz blushed and her hands immediately went to the back of her robe, pulling it down. “I swear, this robe gets me into more trouble than it’s worth,” she said with a laugh. “Come on.” She grabbed Amy’s hand and led her across the room. “I need you to help me find something to wear.” The two girls went into Liz’s room and closed the door behind her.
Andrew looked at his three band mates and rolled his eyes. “Really, guys? Really?”
“Huh?” Alex asked, a glazed look over his eyes.
“Noyes, do you need to take another shower?” Mike laughed and patted the younger man on the back.
“Huh?” Alex said again, before shaking his head as if to clear it.
“Shower. You. Do you need one?” Jason asked very slowly.
“So do you need help with Amy’s bags?” Alex asked Andy, completely ignoring Jason and Mike. He walked out of the house without waiting for an answer, glad it was a little bit cooler than normal outside. What the fu.ck was that? he thought, as he ran his fingers through his hair and rubbed the back of his neck.

Chapter 6
“So this is where you’re living?” Amy asked, sitting down on Liz’s futon. She bounced up and down on the mattress a few times and nodded approvingly. “I like it.”
“So how was your flight?” Liz asked as she leafed through her closet.
“You know, same old thing.”
“Did you dye your hair or something?” Liz rested her hand on her hip and studied her friend with some curiosity. There was something different about her but she couldn’t figure out what it was.
Amy held a strand of her blonde hair in front of her face and looked at it. “Nooo…does it look weird or something?”
“No, it looks great. There’s just something different about you. You’re, like, glowing or somethingohmygodyouhadsex!”
“Did not!”
“Yes you so did! Jesus, Amy, the rest of us have to ride in that Jeep tonight.”
“Oh relax, we didn’t do it in the Jeep.” She smiled excitedly. “We did it in a Jack-in-the-Box bathroom on the way here.”
“You two are officially insane! What if someone found you? Oh God, what if whoever found you recognized him?”
“Would you seriously just fucking relax? No one saw us.”
“It’s just…you couldn’t wait to get back here?”
“Um, no. I wanted to be able to see you before the guys pulled you outta here and I knew that if I didn’t get that outta my system it would’ve just been a mad dash up the stairs and I would’ve seen you until tomorrow. I mean, try not getting to have sex with your boyfriend for a few months. When you finally see him it’s kind of hard to wait any longer. Sure, we have the phone and Skype but it’s just not the same as the real thing and-”
Liz held up her hands. “Ok, we’re crossing the line we’ve talked about.”
“Ugh, I wish you hadn’t grown up with my boyfriend. It’s not fun having to keep the inaprops stuff to myself.”
Liz laughed and walked over to Amy, hugging her again. “Oh, let’s never be apart again!”
“That’s gonna be kind of hard since I have to go home in five days.”
“Shut up! No talking about that! Now what the hell am I supposed to wear tonight?”
Amy got up and looked through Liz’s clothes. She pulled out a pair of ankle-length skinny jeans and a slinky, black halter top. “This.” Amy laid the outfit on Liz’s futon. She crossed her arms over her chest, a proud look on her face.
“Yeah? That’s not too plain?”
“Well, sure it’s plain just sitting there on your almost bed. But add some nice heels and you and it’s a killer outfit.”
“Aww, you’re sweet.”
Amy snapped her fingers. “And I just got these awesome strappy platform heels you can borrow! They’re red with, like, an inch of platform and like six inch heels. You’re ok with that, right?”
“Oh, totally! Thanks. Man, I forgot how awesome it is to live with another girl, especially since we have the same shoe size.”
“So any special reason you wanna look really good tonight?”
“Not really. I mean, I usually try to look nice…”
“You don’t want any certain guy to notice your hotness?” Liz wrinkled her eyebrows at Amy, clearly not following. “Oh, come on! Alex, maybe?”
“How many times do I have to tell you-”
“Yeah, yeah, you’re just friend. Whatever. I saw the way he looked at you just now.”
“That could be because my freaking boy shorts were on display for everyone in the room.”
“Look, I know what I saw. Sure, Jason and Mike were staring, too, but Noyes looked like he’d just seen the goddamn light or something.”
“Whatevs.”
“I’ll go grab those shoes for ya.” Amy patted Liz’s shoulder and walked out of the room.
Liz tied the halter behind her head and looked at herself in the mirror that hung on the back of her door. Amy was right. The outfit was a good choice. It was sexy without crossing the line into skanky territory. She had decided to leave her brunette hair down and naturally curly, something she hadn’t done in a while. She hated to brag but she knew that she looked better than she had in a long time.
“Daaaamn, girl! Look at you!” Amy said as she walked back into the room with the shoes.
“Thanks to you.” Liz sat down on her bed and slipped into the red high-heels. She wobbled a bit when she first stood up but soon found her balance.
“Perfect,” Amy said with a big smile on her face. “You should probably get going. They’re kind of waiting for you out there.”
“You just wanna get rid of me so you can go have sex with your boyfriend again.”
“Hell yeah! Get outta here!” The blonde girl laughed and playfully pushed Liz out of her bedroom.
“Hot damn!” Mike exclaimed when he caught sight of Liz.
Alex looked up from his phone and his breath caught in his chest. She’d done it again. For the second time in an evening she’d rendered him breathless. “So who’re you all dressed up for?” he teased her when she walked over to where they were waiting by the front door.
“A lady never knows who she’ll run into. Now let’s go before this one has some kind of sexual withdraw breakdown.” She pointed with her thumb over her shoulder and Amy.
Mike put his hand on the small of Liz’s back as they walked out to the car. Alex hopped into the passenger seat while Mike and Liz climbed into the back. “So, just for the record,” Michael said as he buckled his seatbelt, “I’m not a huge fan of those shoes.”

Alex Noyes sat at the table, holding it while his three friends worked the dance floor. He clenched his jaw as another guy approached Liz. He told himself that it was just because he was protective of her because she was his best friend but it was becoming increasingly difficult to keep lying to himself. He smirked when Liz shook her head at the guy that had just asked her to dance. Instead, she looked around and smiled when she saw Alex at the table. She waved them motioned for her to come join her. He smiled but shook his head. Liz wasn’t about to take no for an answer. She pushed her way through the crowd and climbed up the few stairs that separated the dance floor from the bar.
“What’re you doing up here?” she asked, stealing a sip of her friend’s beer.
“Just holding down the fort.”
“Well that is not acceptable.” She put her hand on his shoulder and leaned closer to him. “Come dance with us.”
“If I get up we’ll lose the table.”
“Well we wouldn’t need the table if you’d stop being such a party pooper.”
Alex laughed. “How drunk are you?”
“I would say I’m safely a five on the one-to-ten scale.” She grabbed his hand and tried to pull him off of his stool.
“What’re you doing?” he laughed.
“I don’t like you up here all alone. Come dance with us. Maybe you could prove me wrong and find a nice lady to bring home.”
“Naw, I’m good.”
“Then come dance with me.”
Liz didn’t know it but she had just said the magic words. “If I dance with you for one song will you let me enjoy the rest of my beer in peace?”
“Quit being a bi.tch, Noyes. Come on!”
He acted reluctant to get up, letting Liz take one of his hands in both of hers and pull him to the dance floor. He smiled and started moving his forearms in a windmill motion. “No! This is a Gayne-free zone!” She laughed and grabbed his arms. “I don’t wanna dance with Gayne Wetsky. I wanna dance with Alex.” She grinned and put his hands on her waist just above the curve of her hips. Her own hands found their way to the back of his neck, forcing their bodies closer together.
Even with her heels, Liz was still a good four inches shorter than him and when she looked up something in his blue eyes made her blush and bite her bottom lip. She had danced with Jay and Michael plenty of times before and always had a good time but somehow this was different. The way he didn’t stop smiling at her, holding her close but not roughly, gave her unexpected butterflies. Song after song played and they never separated, simply adjusting their tempo to match that of the music. As the night went on, Alex’s hands moved slowly over the curves of Liz’s body, over her back and down her sides. Liz panted lightly, feeling sweat forming on her brow. Her fingers ran through the hair on the back of his head. She gently pulled his face down to meet hers, their foreheads nearly touching. Alex smiled nervously, knowing that the ball was in his court. Her brown eyes bore into his, challenging him to make the next move. His right hand found her cheek, cupping it gently. His pulse quickened at he ever so slightly pulled her even closer, eager to have her lips against his. Liz closed her eyes, ready to accept the impending kiss.
Suddenly, the song ended and light filled the club. Liz opened her eyes. Alex quickly created a few inches of space between them, a sad smile on his lips. He was thankful when she spoke first. “I guess we’re getting kicked out, huh?” she asked with a small, nervous laugh.
“I guess so.” Over Liz’s head, Alex could see Jay and Mike looking for them from the bar. “We’d better…” He pointed to their friends.
Liz turned around. “Oh. Right. Man, what time is it?”
“Probably like five,” he answered as they worked their way through the dispersing crowd.
“Holy shit!” Time had passed much more quickly than she’d thought.
“I know, right?”
“You guys ready to roll out?” Jason asked, twirling the keys to the Jeep on his finger. They nodded and the four of them headed out to the car.
Alex quickly climbed into the back seat and was relieved when Liz passed up the shotgun position to sit in the back next to him. He rested his arm on the back of the seat and Liz took the opportunity to rest her head at the nape of his neck. She sighed contentedly, making his heart flutter. “I am so drunk,” she whispered before falling asleep, even though they both knew that wasn’t true.

aww thanks for commenting! here's the next part! lemme know what ya think!

Chapter Seven
Over the next two days, Liz and Amy were attached at the hip. Liz was glad that she had decided to take the week off from work because there was no way she would’ve been able to concentrate on her articles while Amy was there. Not to mention the fact that she was still trying to figure out exactly what had happened the night she had danced with Alex. Nothing had changed in their relationship, at least as far as everyone else in the house could tell. But Liz found herself constantly questioning the things he did. Were their moments of physical contact, a hand on the knee, their legs brushing together under the table, now full of intention or meaning? Did his hand linger on her or was it simply her imagination? Had he always smiled like that when she walked into the room? Was the sparkle in his eyes she saw when they spoke something new or had she simply never noticed?
Neither of them had brought up what had happened that night so for all she knew she was simply reading too much into things. Maybe he hadn’t almost kissed her. Maybe she was just lightheaded and confused from dancing all night. But if that was true then why did her gut tell her that that is exactly what would’ve happened if the lights hadn’t come on? But if he had wanted to kiss her, why hadn’t he tried to again?
“So what d’you think?”
“Huh?” Liz asked, trying to bring her mind back to the present.
“Jesus, Liz. Where is your brain lately? It’s like every time I look at you you’re not really all there.”
“Sorry. Just, uh, haven’t had my second cup yet,” she replied, holding up her coffee mug.
“Uh huh,” Amy said skeptically. The two young women were sitting on the patio, enjoying the early morning sunshine that flooded the backyard. This had become their morning ritual since Amy was still on east coast time and Liz was used to getting up early for work. “So does that sound like a plan?”
“Does what sound like a plan?”
Amy sighed. “Having a beach day today. I was only just talking to you about it.”
“Sure, I’m game.”
“Great. You wanna go wake up the guys? I’ll start making some sandwiches.” Amy got up and headed into the house.
“Sure, why not?” Liz answered to no one. She followed her friend into the house, closing the sliding door behind her.
“Oh and you might want to just knock on Andy’s door. When I left him he was still naked and I feel like that hasn’t really changed.”
Liz laughed as she climbed the stairs. “I should’ve seen that coming.”
“From a mile away.”
She knocked on the first door at the top of the stairs. “Andrew, you awake?”
“Yeah. What’s up?” he called through the door.
“Amy wants to go to the beach. Sound good to you?”
The door opened, revealing a very bare top half of Andy. “Sounds great actually. I’ll be down in a few.”
“With pants, right?”
Andy chuckled. “No, I’m gonna pull a Noyes and just walk around naked.”
Liz rolled her eyes. “Just help Amy pack while I wake up the other three idiots.” Andy closed his door and Liz turned around to face Jason’s room. “Jay, can I come in?”
“Huh?” he asked groggily. “What time is it?”
“Like eight.”
“Ugh, yeah, come on in.”
Liz opened the door to see Jason sprawled out across his bed in pajama pants and a t-shirt, his hair sticking out in all different directions. “So we’re thinking of going to the beach. You in?”
“Always.” He smiled and ran his hand through his curls. “What time?”
“We should probably leave in, like, an hour or so.”
“Alright, I’ll be ready.”
Liz headed to Mike’s room next. “Mike, you up?” she asked after knocking.
“For a beautiful woman, always.”
“Oh, I soooo set myself up for that one. Can I come in?”
“Sure.”
Liz opened Mike’s bedroom door to see him already dressed and fixing his hair in front of the mirror. “Oh you really are up.”
“So the beach, huh?”
Yeah, in like an hour.”
“Good stuff. I’ll see ya downstairs in a few.”
“Cool.”
Liz knew she only had one door left. Alex was notorious for being slow to get started in the morning so she was sure he wouldn’t hear her knocking. Instead she opened the door slowly and stepped inside. “Alex, you awake?” she asked, not really expecting an answer. He was clearly topless, maybe more, but was completely wrapped up in a blanket as if he’d been rolling around all night. She walked over to his bedside and saw that he was smiling in his sleep. As cliché as it was, he really did look completely peaceful when he was asleep. She leaned down and put her hand on his bare shoulder. “Alex, it’s time to get up.” She shook him gently until his eyelids fluttered open. “Hey. Sorry to kill your dream.”
“It’s all good. What’s up?”
“We’re all goin’ to the beach.”
“Right now?” He sat up quickly, afraid that maybe somehow he’d already been told this then had fallen back to sleep and was about to miss out.
Liz giggled and handed him his glasses from the bedside table. “Relax, everybody else just got up. Well, I’m pretty sure Mike may have gotten up a few hours ago and has just been in his room preening or something.”
Alex laughed and pushed his glasses up his nose. Then it hit him. “Shit, what’s the weather like?”
“Really nice, actually. Like seventy-fiveish and sunny. Why?”
“So shirt-off weather?”
“For you guys, maybe. Why?”
“Ugh, you don’t wanna know.”
“Al! You up?” Mike said, suddenly appearing in the doorway. Liz’s jaw dropped. He was shirtless with stray spots of shaving cream on his bare chest.
“Yeah, yeah, I’m up. I’ll be right in,” Alex grumbled. Mike gave him a thumbs up and headed back to his own room. “Damnit.”
“Do I even want to ask?”
“No, trust me. You really don’t.” She stared at him expectantly. “But you kind of want to know now, right?” Liz nodded. “If I tell you this, you need to promise not to tell anyone else.”
“I promise.”
“And just a warning, once you hear something you can’t really unhear it. And this is something you will want to unhear.”
“Oh God, just tell me already.”
“You know how us guys are all really close?”
Liz nodded. “Sometimes disgustingly so.”
“And bros always help each other out.”
“Right, you’ve got each other’s backs and all that.”
“Funny you should choose those words…”
Liz’s eyes grew wide. “No!”
Alex nodded. “Mike has this thing with what he sees as excess body hair…”
“So you shave his back?!”
“I told you you didn’t want to know!”
“Oh my God! That mental image will haunt me forever!”
“You made me tell you!”
Liz fell onto the bed next to him, laughing hysterically. “When you two get married can I be the maid of honor.”
“Yeah, laugh it up.”
“Oh, I fully intend to for a long, long, very long time.” Liz sat up, wiping tears from her eyes. “Meet us downstairs when you’re done shaving your husband.”
* * * * *
Liz tapped her foot excitedly the whole ride from the house to Malibu. It had been a really long time since she’d been to the beach and she hadn’t realized how much she’d missed it until she put on her bathing suit that morning. Mike pulled the Jeep into a parking spot and as soon as he put it in park, Amy and Liz jumped out of the two back doors. They ran across the blacktop and onto the sand, kicking off their flip-flops and pulling off their cover-ups as they got closer to the water. The two girls screamed excitedly as they plunged into the Pacific together, not caring that they were the only ones in the water.
“I love that it’s November and we’re in the ocean.” Liz was all smiles as she bobbed over a wave.
“I know! All of our New York friends are totally wearing puffy coats and walking around in dirty city snow,” Amy laughed.
They stayed in the water for about five minutes before they started to feel the chill. “Uh, Ames?”
“Yeah?”
“You getting cold?”
“Absolutely freezing.”
“How badly will we get made fun of when we run out of here shivering?”
“Don’t care. Can’t feel toes.” They ran back out of the water, dripping wet and freezing cold.
Andy grabbed a towel and held it open for Amy to run into. He wrapped it around her and hugged her tightly. “So, I’m guessing you won’t be joining the polar bear club any time soon, huh?” he teased as he rubbed the towel over her hair.
“Sh-sh-shut up-p-p,” she shivered, nuzzling against him for warmth.
Liz shook with cold as she dug through her beach bag for a towel. “Here,” Alex said, offering her one he had found when he saw her running across the sand.
She smiled gratefully. “Thanks.”
“You totally looked like a tourist just now.”
“It was worth it,” she answered as she rubbed the towel over her body. Alex had never wished he could be a piece of terrycloth more in his life. Even after she was fully dry, Liz kept shivering.
Alex pulled his long-sleeve t-shirt off and offered it to her. “Here.”
“Thanks.” She pulled it over her head, the familiar scent of Polo Blue completely enveloping her. She was instantly warmed but wasn’t sure if it was the shirt or the face that now Alex was standing in front of her without one. It wasn’t like she had never seen him without a shirt on before. In face, she had seen him wearing much, much less. But just seeing him standing in front of her in his low-slung jean shorts, a slightly worried look on his face, was giving her the warm and fuzzies all the same.
“No problem.” He couldn’t get over how sexy she was in his shirt. It was long enough to completely cover her bathing suit. If he didn’t know any better, he would’ve thought that that shirt was all she was wearing. It was an idea that would undoubtedly reappear in his mind at a later time. He blushed slightly, forcing himself to look away. That was it. He needed some answers and soon because he knew that if he wasn’t careful his heart would get ahead of itself, something he had allowed to happen too many times before.
