Ch. 2
2 weeks later…
All four guys sighed as the last of their bags were packed into their tour bus. They were all extremely excited but extremely tired. They had just finished their tour with the Jonas Brothers and were now on their tour bus to bring them to their new house in La.
Maddie got back from her job at the flouriest and unlocked the door to her and Kellie’s apartment. It was only around four so she knew Kellie was still at her office at the magazine or taking photos somewhere.
She quickly made dinner for the both of them and kept it on low heat on the oven to keep it warm before walking down to her room and pulling out her keyboard. She closed her eyes and waited…
Music always came naturally to her. When she was younger and in her prime music writing days she could seriously just close her eyes and see the music in front of her. She would then just play whatever she saw and soon she had a song. It was like how an artist painted. She could just visualize the colors, texture, and sound of all the notes. And the colors and texture would change as to how she was feeling…
This time she closed her eyes and her visualization mirrored her feelings… lost. There was absolutely nothing behind her eyes. No colors, no textures, and definitely no notes. She sighed and opened her eyes again only to start playing some familiar tunes.
Although she had lost her music writing skills, at least she had some sort of music in her life and that was what was making her hold on.
Kellie walked into her apartment and put her keys on the table. She heard the distinct and distant sound of a keyboard being played. She smiled hoping that maybe Madelyn had gotten her music back. She walked quietly to her best friend’s room and peered in watching her get lost in the music.
“Sounds good.” Kellie said once the song was done.
“Thanks… Nothing I haven’t written before though.” Madelyn said glumly as she turned to face her best friend.
“Still no luck?” Kellie asked sympathetically.
“No…”
“Well no worries baby doll, we have the whole weekend free and my goal is to get you some inspiration.” Kellie said.
“Thanks, it’s just annoying I feel like I’m trying everything. I mean I moved across the country, I took two new jobs that I never did before… I mean I thought flowers would be serene, calming, and beautiful leading to inspiration…. But no, now all I hate are bees.”
“Come on Mads, you moved out here with me, you still have music in your life, and you love your two jobs at the flouriest and at the animal shelter…. Come on, why don’t you take a break from the music and come have dinner.” Kellie suggested. Madelyn nodded and followed Kellie into the kitchen.
“Home sweet home…” Jason said as the four guys made their way into their apartment bags in tow.
“Let’s go to bed.” Andy suggested. The three others grunted in response and headed to bed… what a homecoming.
After dinner the girls both got changed into bathing suits. After all it was summer and at six it was easily still light out.
The girls both talked animatedly as they walked down in their bikinis and flip flops to the pool. They both just talked about random things and grabbed floats for the pool. They just lazily floated around and talked. Kellie was really happy; even though her music wasn’t back Madelyn finally seemed to be getting back to normal, sort of.
Finally after becoming hot enough, both girls jumped off their floats and dove under the water. It was exactly what Madelyn needed to cool off. After jumping in she quickly swam to the other end of the pool, hopped out and laid on a lounge chair.
No more than a few minutes later she heard Kellie get out of the pool and join her on the lounge chair next to her. Kellie just followed Madelyn’s lead and soon closed her eyes as she relaxed.
Their peace and quiet was soon interrupted by four guys…
“Our first night home in over three months and we’re spending it by the pool…” Andy said.
“Come on bro, we’re all too tired to go out tonight, besides we’ve missed our new home.” Jason said. As the next guy spoke it was like music to Madelyn’s ears… and head.
“So true… last one in is I don’t know, they just suck!” Alex yelled as he ran and did a cannon ball into the deep end. Madelyn nearly jumped out of her seat… the colors and notes were coming together. Just a little longer and she’d see the song, or at least the beginning of it…
“You suck Mike!” Alex yelled.
“I’m not hot yet…” At that voice the colors and notes crumbled away until she couldn’t see anything except blackness…. No! She thought she squeezed her eyes closed tighter willing the music to come back but nothing came.
“Come on Mike!” She heard everyone else yell.
“Oh be quiet already would ya?” Mike asked and she heard a splash. She knew that voice… it couldn’t be him could it? Madelyn opened her eyes quickly and waited for his head to pop out of the water. Even though he had longer hair and looked older, it was definitely the same guy. She knew she had to get out of there quick. She didn’t pay attention to who he was with and without an explanation to Kellie quickly picked up her towel and ran inside.
“So what was up with last night?” Kellie asked as she joined Madelyn at the kitchen table for breakfast.
“I felt nauseous all of a sudden; ya know my time of month.” Madelyn said. It wasn’t quiet a lie, she did feel nauseous once she heard his voice…
“Ok…” Kellie said skeptically not believing her best friend, but knew not to push her. Usually Kellie and Madelyn shared everything with each other and Kellie knew she’d find out soon enough, or at least when Maddie was ready.
They were planning on spending the day walking around downtown la and shopping before coming back home and planning the rest of the day as they went along.
As they were about to leave for their endeavors someone knocked at their door. They knew all their neighbors but thought it was weird that someone was actually knocking at their door. Kellie was closer to the door so opened it to two cute guys.
“Hi!” Kellie said brightly.
“Hey girls, I’m Jason.”
“And I’m Andy.” The two guys said.
“Hi I’m Kellie and this is my roommate and best friend Madelyn.” The two girls smiled and nodded towards the boys.
“Nice to meet you both.” Andy said.
“So we were wondering what you ladies were up to tonight…?” Jason asked.
“Nothing why?” Kellie asked.
“Well we’re having a party at our apartment and wanted to know if you wanted to join us. It starts at nine…”
“Sure we’d love to go.” Kellie answered without even a glance to Madelyn, who was now shooting her daggers.
“Great see you girls later, we live at 1475, have a great day girls.” Andy said and with that the boys left.
“Don’t kill me!” Kellie said before even turning around.
“Ugh! Seriously Kells?! I might have had plans ya know!” Madelyn said.
“Really Mads? With who?” Kellie pushed.
“Ugh! I don’t but you never know…”
“Come on, what were you going to do instead? Lock yourself in your room wishing for your music to come back? Come on Mads. It’s one night… we’ll get dressed up and go out, it’ll be fun…”
“Ugh fine…”
“Eeek! Kellie screamed as she tackled her best friend in a bone crushing hug.
“I love you!” Kellie said in a sing-songy voice.
“Yeah, you’re lucky I love you too, now let’s get out of here.” Madelyn said as she made her way towards the door.
